The former director of Globo Portugal, Ricardo Pereira, passed away this Sunday (10). He had been battling liver and pancreas cancer for four years. Through the program “Mais Você”, shown this Monday (11), Ana Maria Braga mourned the loss of her friend.

“I received sad news this morning about the death of a friend, journalist Ricardo Pereira, who I had the pleasure of meeting during one of my trips to Portugal. He was the director of Globo in Lisbon and had a long history of dedication to journalism. He was one of those reporters with a capital ‘R’.”highlighted Ana at the end of the program, paying tribute to her colleague.

The presenter also mentioned Ricardo’s professionalism. “He was an excellent storyteller, had wonderful writing and was a spectacular man. He was working on a series for GloboPlay and was facing cancer. He passed away at the age of 72, and I would like to send a kiss, with all my heart, to the whole family. A kiss, really affectionate”, said the presenter, ending the show.

Ricardo Pereira’s career

Starting his career at Globo in 1977 as a reporter for Jornal Nacional and Fantástico, Ricardo had already carried out other reports for the broadcaster as a freelancer. He moved to Brasília in 1978 to follow the political opening process, becoming TV Globo’s correspondent in London in 1980.

In 1983, Ricardo took charge of the broadcaster’s office in London, later moving to Italy, where he had the opportunity to become director of journalism at Telemontecarlo, a Globo associate. He also worked as a consultant and was appointed director of Globo Portugal in 2011, accumulating an outstanding television CV.
