Atelier Crenn was ranked on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 list.
Two San Francisco restaurants have plenty to celebrate after making The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 list.
Atelier Crenn and Benu were listed among the top restaurants around the globe, and they also happened to be the only California dining destinations highlighted among a few other U.S. dining destinations.
The annual award, which is technically a selection of the top 100 restaurants in the world, first revealed its top 51 to 100 ranking on Tuesday ahead of its top 1 to 50 businesses, which are set to be unveiled July 18. Chef-owner Corey Lee’s three Michelin star restaurant Benu was ranked at No. 97 and said to embody “the idea of friendly fine dining.”
“Riffing between Korean, Cantonese and contemporary American culinary traditions, Benu is becoming a mainstay on 50 Best lists,” the World’s 50 Best wrote. “… Aside from a few longstanding favourites – don’t miss the 1,000-year-old quail’s egg with ginger and cabbage – the menu changes regularly.”
Atelier Crenn, by chef-owner Dominique Crenn, came in at No. 72 and was praised for its elegant cuisine as well as Crenn’s personal activism in the LGBTQ community. Of the menu, the World’s 50 Best wrote that Crenn takes dinners “on a journey through the time and space.”
Benu was ranked on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 list.
The prestigious honor follows Forbes Travel Guide, which was announced in April and mentioned 20 Bay Area restaurants that were considered among the “most outstanding” businesses in the world. Forbes similarly highlighted Atelier Crenn and Benu among its five-star winners.
“Acclaimed chef Dominique Crenn’s signature restaurant, Atelier Crenn, is sophisticated, chic, innovative and cerebral. In short, it delivers poetry on a plate,” Forbes wrote.
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants annual ceremony will be held in London on July 18, where it will celebrate recipients ranked in the best 51 to 100 list and reveal the top 1 to 50 winners. To see the top 51 to 100 honorees, see the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022.
