The ‘botch’ that caused the acquittal of a priest convicted of sexual abuse a year ago

A priest convicted a year ago of sexual abuse has been acquitted. The events occurred between 2005 and 2007. The victim, who was 13 years old at the time, claims that she met the priest during a camp at a seminary in Toledo.

The boy was bullied by his classmates, and the priest, taking advantage of his situation, became what the sentence described as “a spiritual director.”

From there, horror ensued. First, the minor was the victim of kisses on the mouth that soon progressed to touching and, finally, to be forced to perform fellatio.

All in two long years of continuous abuse that ended up causing a depressive anxiety disorder in the child. The court considered all these facts provenand in 2023 he sentenced this priest to 7 years in prison.

However, he has now been acquitted. The reason is that the Superior Court of Justice of Castilla y León He considers that his right to defense was violated. All after the priest appealed the sentence.

The reason is that the judge archived the case and then had to reopen it, while the priest’s defense did not have access to key evidence. A ‘legal botch’ by the Bañeza Investigative Court that only leaves a gap for the Priest to enter prison: that the victim appeals and the Supreme Court agrees.
