It’s easy to break down the best movies by year or decade, but to try to make a list of the all-time greatest? It is not easy. However, I have taken on this difficult task and put together a list of the top 10 movies of all time.
I struggled with making this list as I started with about 40 different films. It was like a game of movie Tinder, swipe right on yes, stare at a movie for fifteen minutes and think, ehhhh, it’s a maybe, but ultimately, swipe left. We aren’t talking about a specific decade, these are the greatest movies of ALL TIME.
I’m sure that people will read this and think I am out of my mind. I know my taste might be different from yours and honestly, that is super fine. I love discussing films in-depth with other people, especially movies we disagree on. I’ve revisited plenty of films in my time that I went back and had a change of heart on them. But I’ve also watched some back and said, nope, that was as bad as I remember.
You won’t find the Lord of the Rings movies on my list as they aren’t my cup of tea. (I do love second breakfast, though) Another thing you won’t see is a ton of recent movies, say the last five years. For me, the greatest of all-time list should include films that have stood the test of time. Something that you watched a decade later and it was like, yeah, that’s as good as I remembered.
Movies from the last couple of years that have the chance to be on a list like this in the future include Florian Zeller’s The Father, Bong Jun-ho’s Parasite, Fran Kranz’s Mass and Jerrod Carmichael’s On The Count of Three.
With all that being said, let’s go ahead and dive into my top 10 movies of all time.
