The Board of Directors of the ‘Poble de Benimaclet’ Cultural Association of Valencia has denounced the theft of the figure of the baby Jesus – the ‘Jesuset’ – from the nativity scene in the square in the Benimaclet neighborhood, which has been replaced by mud-stained paper.
The Cofradia dels Sants de la Pedra i Crist de la Providència de Benimaclet, a centenary entity founded in 1548 and in charge of maintaining the neighborhood’s patron saint festivities, has indicated, in a statement, that last year A life-size nativity scene was placed in the square that suffered “a similar attack”.
In this line, he has emphasized that the act was carried out at nightsince the previous afternoon the nativity scene was placed next to the fountain in Benimaclet Square in an event organized by the Parish of l’Assunció de Nostra Senyora.
The association has described the theft as “a bad dream” that they have done “uncivil people who walked through the neighborhood with very bad intentions”, while denouncing that these are actions that have been repeated “for too many years”. Therefore, they have encouraged the residents of the neighborhood to express their rejection of acts that “only “They seek to harm and deteriorate the image” of Benimaclet.
